Roche and the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) have announced a new agreement aimed at expanding access to influenza treatment in 129 low- and middle-income countries.
The partnership is expected to improve the availability of Roche’s influenza antiviral medicine by allowing broader manufacturing and distribution in eligible countries. The initiative focuses on increasing affordable access to flu treatment, especially in regions with limited healthcare resources.
Health experts believe the agreement could strengthen global preparedness against seasonal influenza outbreaks and future pandemics. Wider access to antiviral medicines may help reduce severe infections, hospitalizations, and influenza-related deaths.
MPP, a global public health organization supported by the United Nations, works with pharmaceutical companies to improve access to essential medicines in developing countries. The organization has previously supported access to treatments for HIV, COVID-19, hepatitis, and tuberculosis.
The Roche–MPP collaboration is also expected to support local pharmaceutical manufacturing and encourage healthcare equity across developing nations.
Experts say such international partnerships are becoming increasingly important as countries work to improve pandemic preparedness and ensure affordable access to lifesaving medicines worldwide.
